TRACE Attended the National Federation of the Blind State Convention

Accessible kiosk prototype

On February 14th, 2025, TRACE attended the NFB State Convention in Ocean City, Maryland. Dr. Bern Jordan designed and developed a prototype for accessible kiosks which he showcased during this convention. Kiosks are becoming more and more popular: we order food with them, check bags at the airport with them, and more. However, these kiosks heavily rely on the user’s ability to see the elements on the screen, and are rarely accessible for Blind and low-vision people. At the convention, people were able to try and test the prototype and provide Dr. Jordan with valuable feedback about what an accessible kiosk should look like. Understanding the Blind community’s needs can lead to better development and an accessible product that can be presented to larger distributors.
